Marriage Celebrant
Marriage is a special blessing, it is an ancient time honoured ritual that unites a couple together. Rituals and ceremonies are a powerful symbolic way of honouring and connecting us to the sacred by inviting us to open our hearts to honour a deep union of the human spirit.
A Marriage ceremony celebrates love, commitment, and acceptance of one another, it creates a truly precious, memorable, sacred moment.
It not only brings a couple together but also includes the wider circles of your many connections, it draws together your extended families and friends. It is a community blessing, which has a steadying and sustaining power of respecting your union.
Subhana offers her services as a celebrant to couples who have some affinity or connection with Buddhism or who are meditation practitioners. Subhana has a wide range of experience in conducting ceremonies:- marriages, funerals, baby naming, Zen precept ceremony and rites of passage ceremonies.
Subhana draws from this background to assist a couple in designing a marriage ceremony that is special, unique and embodies the sacred. Subhana usually meets with the couple on two occasions prior to the wedding and through a joint consultation process will assist the couple to design a ceremony that reflects their spiritual values and commitment to one another.
Plan for the ceremony
It is advisable to contact and meet with the Celebrant two months prior to the ceremony.
You will need to fill out the following papers:
- ‘Intention to Marry’ papers one month prior to the marriage.
- Freedom to Marry Form – (A Statutory declaration, declaring that you are of the age of consent and are either single or divorced and are free to marry).
- Original documents for identification need to be sighted, either birth certificates or passports.
- If there has been a previous marriage you will also need to produce divorce papers.
Time of the Wedding
Weddings may be scheduled at any time during the week or week-end.
Fee for Service
The fee is $600 plus GST, which includes 2 x 1hr planning meetings, the legal documentation and the ceremony itself. An additional charge of $50 plus GST may be required for extended travel to special locations. A discount rate is available for long-term members of the Sydney Zen Centre and practitioners in the Insight Meditation tradition.
